Animation Workshop: For
the second year, Flickerings is pleased to present a three-day,
hands-on, animation workshop led by working animators who bring a
level of professional instruction, creativity and fun to this
workshop that makes it one you won't want to miss. Anyone
interested in art of bringing characters to life, one frame at a
time, is welcome. We will cover a variety of animated media from
clay puppets to more adventurous materials such as sand on glass
and wire armatures. No previous experience is necessary, so show
up on time and be ready to jump in. The Animation Workshop will
take place at 1PM in the back of the Flickerings building. There
may be additional sessions for intermediate students TBA.
The animation workshop will be taught by filmmaker, storyteller and educator,
Steve Leeper. Originally from the mid-west, Steve studied animation,
painting and drawing at the Museum School of Fine Arts in Boston. He is the
Animator/Director of three short animated films: Please Don’t Feed the
Animals, Traveling Show and most recently Line Drawing.
Steve has recently earned a Masters of Fine Arts through the Art Institute of
Boston where he began work on his forth short animated film, Moonboy and
Shadow which he hopes to complete in the following year.
Steve worked for Big Idea Productions and between 1998 and 2003 as 3D layout
supervisor for numerous productions including the feature film Jonah: a
VeggieTales Movie. Steve currently lives in Huntington Indiana with his
wife Tami and three daughters where he teaches animation at Huntington
University and has been instrumental in building their Digital Media Arts
program. Steve will also host evening animation screenings.
Assisting Steve in the Animation Workshop will be Brad Yarhouse, a designer
and animator whose work has been featured in festivals worldwide.
Deep Focus Each night,
filmmakers are invited to gather in a "filmmakers only" session in
the Speaker Hospitality Trailer to swap stories, ask questions, and
screen works-in-progress. Some of the most fruitful sessions of
Flickerings take place here.
Note: Wednesday night's Deep Focus session will include a reception for those
filmmakers whose work has been selected for this year's Film Showcase
program.
